  • Connecticut: Loss Damage Waiver (LDW) - LDW (Loss Damage Waiver) is additional coverage you can purchase to protect against damage or loss of the rental car, but this does not free you. You are still responsible for any damage caused by misuse or breaking the rental rules. It is a good idea to check if your own insurance or credit card already provides this coverage. If your insurance pays for the damage, Avis will refund any extra charges you paid.
  • Hawaii: Loss Damage Waiver (LDW) - LDW is optional extra coverage you can buy. Before buying it, you can check if your own insurance or credit card already covers rental cars. If you pay for the fuel service and return the car with more fuel or drive less than 100 miles, you might get some money back.

Deposit (Security & Prepaid) Policy

When you choose to pay now instead of paying later, Avis will check your credit and charge your card for the rental cost. They will also place a minimum hold of $250 on your card as a security deposit. When you return the rental car, Avis will remove the hold amount from your credit card. Your bank may take up to two weeks to make these funds available again in your account.
