For Prepaid Cancellation
If you book a prepaid car rental from certain countries like Australia, Germany, or the UK, you may have to pay fees if you cancel your reservation or don't show up to pick up the car. You can make changes or cancel online or by calling Hertz, but you cannot change the main driver’s name or pick-up location without cancelling and rebooking. Cancellation fees are $100 if done more than 24 hours before pick-up, and $200 if less than 24 hours before pick-up. If you neither cancel nor pick up the rental car, you will lose the entire prepaid amount. If you cancel within 24 hours of booking, there will be no cancellation fee.
Cancellation For Hertz Gold Plus Rewards points
If you cancel within 24 hours of booking, you will get all your points back. If you cancel more than 24 hours before pick-up, you will lose some of your points. Gold members lose 50% of their points. Five Star members lose 25% of their points. President’s Circle members do not lose any points. If you do not cancel and do not pick up the car, you will lose all your points.
Note: Hertz can change the rules for points and cash without any prior notice.
No-Show-Up
If you do not show up to pick up your rental car and ask for your paid money, you have to pay a no-show fee. However, if you do not cancel your reservation and do not show up, you will not get any money back.
Note: If you cancel or do not show up, the fees will never be more than what you already paid in advance.
Cancellation Refund
If you cancel your Hertz reservation at least 48 hours before your pick-up date, you will get a full refund. If you cancel later, you will get a refund minus an administration fee. Hertz sends refunds back to the original card that you used for booking.
Refund In Case Of No Show-Up
If you do not show up to pick up your car, you can ask for a refund minus a no-show fee within 90 days. If you do not cancel and miss your pick-up, you lose the entire prepaid amount.
Refund In Case of Early Return
Once you have rented a car, you will not get any money back for rental days you did not use.
Deposit Refund
If you rent a car using a credit card, Hertz will remove the hold on your deposit within 24 hours after you return the car. However, your bank might take up to 10 days to give you back the money. If you do not get your money back after 10 days, you should contact your bank. If you use a debit card, how long the hold lasts depends on your bank’s rules.
Note: Under the Hertz Gold Plus Rewards Points Refund Policy, Hertz can change or cancel how you use your points for cash or refunds at any time, and they do not have to give you notice before doing so.
Hertz requires a security deposit when you pick up the car. This deposit covers any possible damages or extra charges. The amount depends on the car type and rental location. For prepaid rentals, you pay the full amount when you book the car, not when you pick it up. Hertz holds a security deposit on your credit card until you return the car. When you rent a car from Hertz, you need to use a credit card with enough credit to secure the rental. They will put a hold on your credit card for an amount that includes the calculated rental charges and a security bond. This hold will be mentioned on your rental agreement.
Hold On to Debit & Credit Card
If you use a debit card, Hertz will place a hold of up to $500.00 on your account. This amount will not be available for you to use until the hold is released. For credit cards, the hold can be up to $200.00. They will temporarily block this amount on your card to cover the rental costs and any potential extra charges.
If you return the car before your rental period ends, you will not get a refund. Similarly, if you do not use the rental car for all the days you paid for, you will not get money back for the unused days. Even if you return your rental car late. You have to pay extra. When you return the car, Hertz gives you 59 extra minutes apart from your return time before charging extra. If you return the car after this 59-minute grace period, Hertz will charge you for extra hours. Each extra hour costs one-fifth of the daily rental rate.
Note: Hertz will charge you for extra hours, but only up to a maximum of 5 hours. After 5 hours, there will be no charges for being late.
