How to Cancel
To cancel your reservation, you can log in to ‘My Sixt’ or send an email. For USA reservations, email reservations-usa@sixt.com. For Canada reservations, you have to email reservations-can@sixt.com.
Fees for Cancelling
For Pay Later reservations, you can cancel or change your booking for free online or via email. For Pre-Paid reservations, there are cancellation fees. In the USA, if you cancel 24 hours or more before the pick-up time, the fee is $100 plus tax. If you cancel less than 24 hours before pick-up, the fee is $200 plus tax. In Canada, if you cancel 24 hours or more before pick-up, the fee is 65 CAD plus tax. If you cancel less than 24 hours before pick-up, the fee is 150 CAD plus tax.
Note:
- You can cancel anytime before your rental starts. If you have a pre-paid booking, the fee depends on how soon you cancel. Fees can be up to $200 in the USA or 150 CAD in Canada (plus tax).
- If you do not cancel your reservation before the rental period begins, you will have to pay the full amount for the rental. The same applies if you do not go to collect the car.
Cancellation When Destination Booking
For Destination Bookings, you can cancel for free up to 60 minutes before pickup. For airport pickups, if you give your flight number when booking, you can cancel for free up to 60 minutes before your flight lands or the additional time period ends.
For Airport Pick-ups, if you are picking up a rental car at the airport and gave your flight number when you booked, you can cancel your reservation for free up to 60 minutes before your flight lands. If you added extra buffer time to your booking, you can cancel for free up to 60 minutes before that extra time ends. And without a flight number, you can cancel for free up to 60 minutes before the scheduled pick-up time.
Cancellation When Book For An Hour
If you book a car for an hour and need to cancel, you can do it for free if you cancel up to 24 hours before you pick up the car. If you cancel less than 24 hours before, you will be charged the full price.
For airport pick-ups, if you provide your flight number, you can cancel for free up to 24 hours before your flight lands or the extra time ends. If you do not provide a flight number, you can cancel for free up to 24 hours before the planned pick-up.
Metered Service (Taxi) Cancellation
For metered taxi services, if you cancel your booking before the taxi is sent, there is no cancellation fee. However, if you cancel after the taxi has been sent out, you may have to pay some charges. This fee depends on local regulations or the specific rules of the taxi service provider.
Transportation Network Service Cancellation
Similarly, for transportation network services (like ride-sharing apps), you can cancel your booking without any charge if you do it before the driver is sent. If you cancel after the driver has been assigned to your ride, a cancellation fee might apply. The amount of this fee will depend on the terms set by the service provider.
Country-Specific Cancellation Rules in China
- Hong Kong, Shenzhen, Shanghai, Beijing, and Guangzhou: In these places, you can cancel your reservation for free if you do so up to 4 hours before your scheduled pick-up time. If you cancel less than 4 hours before pick-up, you will have to pay the full fare of the rental.
- Chengdu and Tianjin: For these, you get a bit more time to cancel without a fee. You can cancel for free up to 6 hours before pick-up. If you cancel less than 6 hours before the pick-up time, you will lose the full rental amount.
- Macau: In Macau, the cancellation policy is even more flexible. You can cancel for free up to 12 hours before the scheduled pick-up time. If you cancel less than 12 hours before pick-up, you will be charged the full rental fare.
