Prepaid Cancellation Information

If you cancel within 24 hours of booking, there is no fee. If you cancel after 24 hours, you will lose the amount prepaid. If you do not cancel and do not pick up the car, you also lose the amount prepaid you have paid. Cancellation or no-show fees will not exceed the prepaid amount. You can cancel your reservation either on Thrifty.com or by calling 1-800-847-4389.

Making Changes In Reservation

When you pay for your car rental in advance, you automatically get a discount. You can make up to two changes to your reservation before you pick up the car. If these changes affect the amount paid, your card will be charged or credited for the difference. When you pick up the car, show the same credit card you used to pay.

Prepaid cancellation refund

You will not get any refund and lose the full amount you paid in advance if you neither cancel the reservation before your pick-up time nor pick up your booked car.

Prepaid Fuel Refund

For car rental fuel, you will pay the same amount for the gas as you would pay at a local gas station, but if you return the car with any gas left in the tank, you will not get your money back for that unused gas.

Early Return Refund

You will not get any money back for unused rental days even if you return the car earlier than the planned time. However, you can return it whenever you want early or late.

Authorized Hold on Your Debit & Credit Cards

When you pick up the car, Thrifty will put a hold on your card. This means they will reserve some money to cover the estimated rental cost plus an extra amount. In the US, the hold is $200 for credit cards and $500 for debit cards. In Canada, it's $350 CAD for both types of cards. This reserved money won't be available for you to use until you return the car. The actual charges will be taken from your card after you return the car.

Cards For Thrifty Car Rental

Thrifty accepts several debit and credit cards, including American Express, MasterCard, Visa, Discover, and others. However, you must present a physical card, not a digital wallet card.

Conditions for Using Debit Cards at Thrifty

If you want to use a debit card to rent a car from Thrifty, you can only rent Compact to full-size cars. Thrifty might check your credit to see if you are good with money, and if they can't check it or you don't have the right ID, they may not let you rent. At airport locations, you need to show a return travel ticket and two valid IDs. These IDs can be a valid driver's license and a credit/debit card with the same name, a passport or military ID with matching names, or a photo ID from a store or company, or a current utility bill with your name and address.

Special Exceptions for Using Debit Cards at Thrifty

If you have a Blue Chip profile, you can use your debit card for any type of vehicle, but Thrifty might still hold $200 for credit cards or $500 for debit cards. However, you cannot use a debit card to rent Premium vehicles or higher, like convertibles. You can pay with a debit card when you return the car. If you need to return the car early because of a flight, you can call Hertz at 1-800-654-5060 for assistance. If you leave the car somewhere other than a Hertz location and need them to send a towing service to get it, you might have to pay for the towing.

Rental Days

Charges are based on 24-hour periods starting from pickup. If you keep the car longer than booked, extra days will be charged after a 29-minute grace period.

Early Return Fee Explained

If you return the rental car more than 24 hours before the planned return time and have not paid in advance, you will only pay for the days you used the car, plus a $25 fee.
